Indiscipline || Without Walls

Word for the week:

“He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls”

-Proverbs 25:28

I woke up this morning and did my quiet time with words from Proverbs. As I read I heard the above familiar scripture I had heard before. Nodded my head and have been trying to meditate on it since then.

It is interesting that the Word would liken someone without self-control to a city that is without walls.

“A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.” – NLT

What does this mean?

How does a city without walls function?

A city without walls has no protection – everything both good and bad is allowed access to the people, livestock, properties and riches therein.

So also is a person without self-control. He has no authority over what is and isn’t allowed in his life. Everything goes and he is open to everything both good and bad. Such a person cannot be trustworthy.

“…Whoever is faithful with very little will also be faithful with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. If, then, you have not been faithful with worldly wealth, who will entrust you with true riches?”

-Luke 16:10-11

We know that the kingdom works from small to big. God tests first of all with little things. If you cannot have self-control with yourself – your mouth, eating habits etc, how can  God be sure that you will have self-control and will be able to put a guard on your flesh if He hands over Heaven’s true riches to you?

Essentially, if you are like a city where anything goes, nothing great can be given unto your hands.

This to me is profound and as I go about this week I will be putting this into cognizance and would let it direct my life and thoughts.

I hope you do so too.

Till next week,

Keep living purposefully,

Love,

Frances
